Today, approximately three million Canadians, or one in 11 people, live in poverty. The Salvation Army recognizes that poverty is a critical issue, and that everyone has a right to access basic necessities such as nutritious food, health care, education and economic opportunity.

Hope happens every day at The Salvation Army Kamloops.  We can help with groceries to see you through a difficult time or obtaining furniture and household items after securing safe housing.  The Salvation Army is committed to ensuring dignity and extending a helping hand up from daily struggles.

90 Day Budget Challenge

In Kamloops The Salvation Army runs an emergency food bank.  Our service delivery is ever changing to keep up with the demands of the community. However, as we do not have an endless supply of money to keep this running on a monthly basis for all clients, we have created an eligibility criteria that is based on income and expenses gathered from the intake form and intake itself.

A client may be eligible monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly or annually.

The 90 Day Budget Challenge is offered to all clients but was created to help those who are not eligible on a monthly basis.

This challenge consists of a client documenting expected income and expenses, weekly spending tracking and a comparison of expected and actual income and expenses.

The results from the comparison will help a client determine their own priorities and what budget is realistic for each purchase.

An envelope or jar type system is recommended in partnership with the weekly spending tracker to stay within budget.

Clients are eligible monthly for this 90 day period. Clients are expected to present completed 30 day challenges when accessing the food bank while in this challenge.

Support is offered to anyone needing any help implementing this challenge into their life.
