Each year, The Salvation Army Kamloops helps make Christmas brighter for local individuals and families through our Christmas Hamper and Adopt-a-Family programs. The Christmas Hamper program connects families experiencing financial hardship with caring sponsors from our community. Individuals, families, businesses, and organizations generously provide support while all recipient information remains confidential. Families who qualify for assistance receive a gift card to help purchase a Christmas meal, as well as gifts for children and youth who are in high school or younger. How to Apply Registration appointments can be booked beginning October 19 by calling 250-554-1611 ext. 200. Space is limited, so we encourage applicants to call early, as appointment times fill up quickly. Become a Sponsor One of the most meaningful ways to give back during the Christmas season is to sponsor a local family through our Adopt-a-Family program. Christmas is just around the corner, and with it comes our largest fundraising effort of the year: the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign. Running from November 13 to December 24, the Kettle Campaign raises vital funds to support the programs and services that help individuals and families in need throughout our community. What began in 1891 in the United States arrived in Canada in 1903, and today more than 2,000 Salvation Army kettles operate in nearly 400 communities across the country each Christmas season. Here in Kamloops, you can find our kettles at Sarah's Independent Grocer, Safeway, Save-On-Foods, FreshCo, Superstore, Walmart, Aberdeen Mall, and London Drugs. During December, additional kettles will be located at the BC Liquor Stores on the North Shore and in Sahali, and beginning December 10, you will also find a kettle at Costco. Donations of cash and cheques are accepted at all kettle locations, and most kettles are equipped with convenient TipTap devices for credit card donations. Our Kettle Campaign would not be possible without the dedication of more than 180 volunteers who generously give their time throughout the holiday season. Volunteers sign up for two-hour shifts to greet shoppers, share warm holiday wishes, hand out candy canes, assist donors, and help spread Christmas cheer throughout our city. There are two simple ways you can support the Kettle Campaign: Volunteer for a kettle shift and help make a difference in your community. Donate at one of our 12 kettle locations throughout Kamloops. Every donation helps provide practical assistance, food support, and hope to individuals and families who need it most. It is that time of year again where we are gearing up for winter. But not everyone has what they need to stay warm. You can help with that! Donate your gently used, clean, good quality winter coats to The Salvation Army's Coats for Folks program. All coats received are distributed to those in need. We will be receiving donations at our building (344 Poplar St) from October 13-15 and again from October 19-22, between 9am-12pm and 1-4pm. The Laundry Guys has also come on board this year and coats can be dropped off at EITHER of their locations during their open hours. They are located at 301 Tranquille Rd and 1200 Summit Dr. They can be reached on (250) 554-8575. Make sure to thank them for their support when you drop off your donation!
