Job Description
The Community Ministry Assistant assists in the organization and distribution of services in our Community Ministries Office.
.
Key Responsibilities
- Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/families
- Provides emergency food hampers to clients
- Assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed
- Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Community Ministries Space.
- Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures
- May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials
- Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy
- May direct work of volunteers assisting in Community Ministries
- Assists with preparing/serving community meals in house or on the CRU (food truck)
- Helps with seasonal tasks where needed such as Christmas Hampers/Kettles
- Must attend all staff meetings and training seminars related to agency services if requested.
- Must be prepared to participate in training at the discretion of the Supervisor/Officer.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum three (3) months of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.
- The successful job applicant will have completed Public School.
- Current FOODSAFE LEVEL 1
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
- Class 5 BC Drivers License or higher
- A clear vulnerable sector screening

Work Environment
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Performance of the job requires a frequent amount of loading/unloading trucks, handing out hampers, receiving/sorting out donated or purchased goods, and computer work
- Performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to clients/volunteers), and attention to detail when entering data/computer work.
- The incumbent could need to work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Temperature variations when out in the CRU
- Cramped working areas
- Work-related stress
- Dealing with angry and/or abusive clients
- The incumbent could be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to:
- Physical and verbal attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to chemicals (e.g. cleaning)
- Moving objects
- Sharp objects
- Risk of back strain
Precautionary Measures
