Community Services Worker

Tori’s role in The Salvation Army as a Community Service Worker has been very rewarding to her because she has a passion to feed the hungry and to help clients see their goals through. She is inspired by how far something small can go for someone in need. Tori loves that her job gives her the ability to connect with all sorts of clientele whether it be for our food programs, referrals, or our Family Fun Night program.

Tori has her diploma in Human Service Work and has plenty of experience working with all sorts of clientele. She has worked with youth and adults who face difficulties such as special needs, addiction, homelessness, and people living in halfway houses. She has been in the community services field for 13 years and loves her career. Her philosophy is if she can help 50 people and see 3 succeed in a brighter future, she knows she is doing a good job.

During her free time, Tori has another full time job as a mother of 3!  She loves to be active with her kids, go to the gym, and educate herself more on health and wellness.

Derryl enjoys his position as a driver with The Salvation Army. His role is to receive donated goods from businesses and stores around town and distribute them where needed in The Salvation Army programs. Derryl loves his job because it gives him a sense of pride that he is helping others that need it.  He always enjoys speaking with people and hearing stories of how The Salvation Army has helped people to start a new life.

Derryl has been in the workforce since he was only 11 years old, and has 40 years’ experience working for BC Tel and Telus. He has been blessed by his saviour in that he has not struggled too much to provide for himself over the years and in the future, despite life’s struggles.

During his free time, Derryl likes to rebuild car and motorcycle engines, remodel homes, or take a cruise down the highway on his motorbike.

Keith supports the Thrift Store and Community Services as a Driver.  He picks up donated goods from locations around town and delivers as needed to The Salvation Army programs.  Keith finds it rewarding to provide food items to the people of Kamloops and seeing the appreciation of those that receive it. Keith is drawn to The Salvation Army by his spouse, who also works with us! He is drawn by The Salvation Army’s focus of helping people and wants to be a part of that. He is inspired by challenging and testing his abilities by building and fixing things, and loves working as a team to succeed.

Keith spent 36 years working with the Ministry of Forests, Forest Management, and Wildfire Management before coming to us.

He loves being in the outdoors doing things like fly fishing, riding his ATV in the backcountry, boating, camping, and hunting during his free time. Keith also enjoys volunteering for The Salvation Army events during his free time and utilizing his skills to test electronics for the Thrift Store to ensure they are not defective.
