10 Women of The Bible

“We don’t even know all their names. Some are referred to only by their nationality. Some are known only by the place where they lived. Some would become queens, while others would live on the fringes of society. One would give birth to a nation, and one would give birth to the Messiah. Their culture often overlooked or discounted the contributions of women, yet the writers of Scripture found these women and the role they played remarkable to the telling of God’s story.

As we study the lives of the women in the Bible, we find important truths that God wants us to grasp. They lived in a different world than our own, but we find ourselves facing the same issues they faced. Yet even more, these women show us there is a God who sees us where we are and loves us for who we are. He is the one who hovers over all the pages of the Bible, shaping lives, rescuing hearts, healing sicknesses, raising what was dead to life, and assigning high callings to those who choose to follow him and have faith in him.”

Kettle season is one of the most important times at The Salvation Army, as it determines our potential to help our community throughout the year. This year, we are reminded of the remarkable generosity of not only our donors and local businesses, but also of our volunteers.  This campaign could not be accomplished without the good will and altruism of our community.

On behalf of The Salvation Army, and of all the people that we will now be able to help through out the year, we would like to express our deepest “thanks”. With the help of Kamloops and area, we’re proud to announce that we have to raised $170,637.30 this holiday season.

Be a #HeroForHope to someone in your community by volunteering at a Salvation Army Red Kettle.

Every year The Salvation Army runs a Kettle Campaign to raise money to help support our various programs that take place in our community throughout the year. The money raised goes towards starting and supporting programs for children, youth, adults, families, seniors, and the various emergency relief services the Salvation Army provides. All donations raised in the Kamloops campaign will go a long way towards helping various people in the Kamloops community!
We would like to invite you, your friends, families, and church to volunteer and make a difference in our community! Just 2 hours of your time can make a difference in the lives of others.

Family Fun Night is returning!
Join us on September 29th at 4:00pm for the kick-off of our much anticipated FFN. Doors open at 4:00 pm for snacks, board games, and playtime. Dinner will be served at 5pm, with crafts to follow!

What is Family Fun Night?
This community-sponsored program caters to families with children under 15 years old, and seeks to meet the social, physical, & spiritual needs of the families we serve. We have a mix of electronic, board, and card games available for family use, as well as a free prepared meal for every member of your family. New activities or crafts are introduced each Friday to encourage child and parent interaction in a socially engaging atmosphere.

We recognize that connecting with others in the community is important for both child development and adult sanity so we provide a fun and safe environment for families to come together on a weekly basis throughout the school year.

We hope that this experience strengthens family bonds and builds a stronger sense of caring in our community. All families are welcome to participate!

Saturday September 30th, 2017 @ 1:00pm – 5:00pm, come out, do your grocery shopping at the Summit Drive Save On, and make sure to donate! For every food item and dollar donated, Craftsman Collision will give $1 to The Salvation Army Food Bank!  Together, we’re making a dent in hunger…

Here at The Salvation Army-Kamloops, it is very exciting for us to connect with you to ask if you would join us in a great outreach “Be a Hunger Hero”.  Many people are unaware that the Salvation Army is the largest non-government funded social service provider in Canada. Due to this fact, we rely on the partnership and support of our community.

We are preparing to “Give Hope & Dignity” to those who most need it.  We want to ensure that no child goes without the basic necessities, and we need your help. We would greatly appreciate your support and enthusiasm to help us run a fundraiser called the “Hunger Hero Concert”.

We will be hosting an event that showcases some of the diverse talent that can be found in Kamloops by inviting international musicians, as well as local talent that will include some buskers from around town.  We believe that this will be an excellent opportunity for people to network with their community and to help give back to their fellow community members.  At this event we would also like to have activities and a barbecue where people can make whatever donation they can to The Salvation Army and receive a meal.

The Hunger Hero Campaign is about acknowledging the struggles of people who have faced hunger and street life and to empower them to tell their stories. This idea has been adapted into a fundraising strategy by The Salvation Army to involve service users and community members in combatting hunger in Kamloops. This movement started two years ago and we are currently in partnership with SD 73 through our Hunger Heroes Food Drive. Our goal is to expand on this partnership with local community members and to create a platform for the people who make use of our services to contribute back to their community through their talent.  This is the second part of a campaign that we would like to continue expanding on in years to come to continue serving the needy in our community. We believe that this will gain momentum each year and gain in popularity and productivity.

This event will run on July 15th, 2017 at Riverside Park from 11 am to 4pm.
